Creative Play...Compliments of Costco

Costco boxes have always been a source of fun for our boys, but more recently they have found that the big packages of diapers are even more of a blast! Toby uses them as surfboards or to slide down the stairs. Here is a video clip of Asher after a recent trip to Costco. Toby was at preschool, so Asher got the diapers all to himself!

Parenting is a Hazard!

Toby and I were looking at some pictures of children from Peru in a World Vision magazine. We decided to take out our big atlas so that I could show him where Peru was located. We were laying on our tummies, looking at the atlas, when Toby eagerly turned to the next map and the corner of the pages hit me right in the eye! It hurt, but since I was busy with the kids I wasn't able to do much about it until Tim got home a few hours later. By that point I realized that my vision was blurry in my right eye - the injured one. So, after talking to a nurse on the phone, I decided to go to urgent care, where the doctor discovered that sure enough, I had a hairline abrasion across my retina!

The kids were already in bed when I came home, so Toby didn't get to see me looking like a pirate with one eye patched. I wore the patch all night and went to see the opthamologist this morning. Thankfully, the abrasion had already healed so well overnight he didn't think any more medicating or patching was necessary. Phew!

Tim and I had to laugh. He broke his toe running around the house with Toby and I injured my eye looking at a book with him. When he is older we'll tease Toby that being his parent was hazardous to our health!
WHO? ME?

Busy Days

We have had birthday parties, special events and other activities that have kept us busy over the last two weeks. A highlight was going to Katie's 5th birthday party. Katie was born 6 months before Tobiah to my friend Illin and we often talk about how they were each other's first friend. When Katie started talking she used to call Tobiah "Biah". It is hard to believe she is now 5 and will be off to kindergarten next year! Here are some cute pics of the two friends together:

On Saturday, May 3rd, Tobiah's preschool had its annual Trike-a-Thon fundraiser event. Toby has been looking forward to this day since last year! Parents sell raffle tickets to "sponsor" their little racers, who ride their decorated tricycles and scooters in a circle around the parking lot. Toby couldn't get enough of it!

Here is Toby with some of his friends at the starting line.

Making his way around the loop. Below: Taking a much needed water break. It was a hot day!

Toby's biggest fan. He was saying, "Go!" from the sidelines.

On Sunday, May 4, we had another friend's birthday party, so we waited to celebrate Toby's "half birthday" on Monday. He is officially 4 1/2! Because waiting for his birthday to come around only once a year is so hard, we thought it would be special for him to have a 1/2 birthday celebration (just with mom, dad and Asher in attendance). Here he is posing with 1/2 a cake! Asher has been singing bits and pieces of songs lately, and with all the birthday parties we've been to lately, after we sang, "Happy Half Birthday to You!" to Toby, Asher started quietly singing, "Hap Day to You!" on his own. It was adorable.

Roomates!

This morning, while Asher and I were at his mommy-and-me gymnastics class, Tim and Tobiah stayed home and worked hard taking Toby's bed apart and setting up in Asher's room. Tonight is the first night that the boys will have shared a room! I put Asher down first, but he was still awake when I tucked Toby in. I thought I'd hear giggles or something after I left the room, but I didn't hear a peep. I had told Toby to go right to sleep so that Asher would too, but I still expected to hear a little interaction between them. I guess they were both pretty tired...and I'm glad the transition went smoothly. We hope that sharing a room will foster a deep bond between our boys!

What used to be Toby's room will now be a playroom, with less furniture and more open space to play. Yeah!
